The Witch is dead. Well, politically anyway. And probably not for long. Hillary Clinton, finally and at long last, before she was yanked off the stage by a
Broadway Hook wielded by her own Party - suspended/conceded/endorsed over the weekend,
depending on your definition of those terms (she remains insistant on retaining her delegates). In addition, although the actual word was never uttered, by suspending she has in fact conceded the Democratic nomination to Barack Obama (remember him?). And she did actually state publicly to her adoring crowd that she is endorsing Obama, and urged her supporters to “support him with as much energy and commitment as you did for me”.This will be no small feat, which Hillary Clinton knows better than anyone.
Of course, it might have been just a bit of an easier transition for everyone had she suspended/conceded/endorsed, say, last Tuesday when she was mathematically eliminated from contention. Or, better yet, after the As mentioned in a previous post, Bill Clinton was singularly responsible for ramming the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) down the throats of Congress and the American people. His legislative cave-in to the telecommunications industry in 1996 opened the floodgates for the concentration of media ownership in fewer and fewer hands that ensued. He also was responsible for gutting the nominations of Attorney General candidates Zoe Baird, Kimba Wood, as well as throwing Lani Guanier under the bus. To Bill and Hillary Clinton, election campaigns in general, and presidential campaigns in particular, are first, last, and always about themselves and their personal political agendas. Why else drag the party/voters/country through what essentially was a very expensive farewell tour? Why keep hammering on the popular vote of some 18 million people as if you were John L. Lewis delivering the support of his United Mine Workers? It can’t be to influence Obama’s political agenda, since there is little difference in their policy positions on any of the major issues such as health care, Why am I so suspicious of their motives? In a single word: tradition. The Maverick |
